DMK District Secretaries Polls: Party leadership in talks with candidates

The leadership of Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK is meeting with aspirants who have submitted nomination papers for the state's 19 district Secretaries positions.

In the state's 38 districts, the DMK has 72 party districts.

Nominations for district Secretaries and other district council members began on Thursday and will conclude on Sunday.

While there is the possibility of a compromise among the leaders in ten party districts, elections are likely to be held in Tenkasi South, Tirunelveli East, Theni North, Ramanathapuram, and Sivaganga, with a fierce competition for the job.

The ruling DMK's leadership is meeting with contenders who have filed nomination for the state's 19 district Secretaries seats.

The DMK has 72 party districts across the state's 38 districts.

The nomination period for district Secretaries and other district council members started on Thursday and will end on Sunday.

While a compromise among the leaders in 10 party districts is possible, elections in Tenkasi South, Tirunelveli East, Theni North, Ramanathapuram, and Sivaganga are expected, with strong fighting for the job.

In many districts, existing district secretaries are vying for the position, but DMK sources told IANS that those who have entire commitment to the party's first family will be chosen.

With Sunday being the deadline for submitting nominations, numerous state officials are trying to reach an agreement on consensus candidates in each district.

Meanwhile, a day after the votes were announced, senior leader Subbulakshmi Jagadesan announced her intention to leave the party and politics.
