In India 86 Rape Cases On Average Were Registered Per Day In 2021: NCRB

According to a new National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, 31,677 rape cases were registered in India in 2021, averaging 86 cases per day. That year, approximately 49 cases of crime against women were reported every hour.

As per the National Crime Records Bureau's 'Crime in India 2021' report, 28,046 cases of rape were registered in 2020, while 32,033 cases were registered in 2019. Rajasthan had the most rape cases in 2021, with 6,337, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 2,947, Maharashtra with 2,496, Uttar Pradesh with 2,845, and Delhi with 1,250.

The report, a total of 4,28,278 cases of 'crimes against women' were registered across the country in 2021, with a crime rate of 64.5 percent (per one lakh population). Charge sheets were filed in 77.1 percent of the cases involving such offences. According to the data, 3,71,503 'crimes against women' were reported in the country in 2020, up from 4,05,326 in 2019.

According to the NCRB, Uttar Pradesh had the most 'crimes against women' cases in 2021, with 56,083. Following this, 40,738 cases in Rajasthan, 39,526 in Maharashtra, 35,884 in West Bengal, and 31,352 in Odisha were registered.
