Vijay Deverakonda gives an emotional speech at SIIMA 2022 post ‘Liger’ failure

 |

Vijay Deverakonda was overwhelmed with emotion as he accepted an award at the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2022. He addressed the underwhelming performance of his most recent release, Liger, and stated that he didn't want to attend the event but did so anyway. At the event, the actor received the Youth icon of South Indian cinema (male) award.

Vijay appeared on the SIIMA red carpet wearing a black bandhgala suit with a bird motif. Vijay, who was wearing sunglasses as he took the stage to accept his award, said, "Everybody has good days. We have all had bad days. We all have bad days. But, regardless of how we feel, we must get up. I swear to you... Maybe I didn't want to be here accepting this award, but I did. As I speak to you, I promise that I will complete the task for all of you. You'll have a good time. Great movies will be made. Thank you very much. It is a great honour to be here."

Liger, starring Vijay Deverakonda, hit theatres on August 25 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam to mixed reviews. The film opened with an impressive 33 crore worldwide but was unable to keep the momentum going, earning only 76 crore worldwide. Liger also features pivotal performances by Ananya Pandey and Ramya Krishnan, as well as a cameo by former boxing world champion Mike Tyson. Puri Jagannadh directed it, and he, Charmme Kaur, and Karan Johar's Dharma Productions co-produced it.
