Congress hails former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru as ‘champion of democracy’ on his birth anniversary
On the occasion of Jawaharlal Nehru's birthday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the 21st century India "cannot be conceived" without the "tremendous contribution" of India's first Prime Minister.
Kharge regarded to the former prime minister as a "champion of democracy," claiming that his ideas advanced India's economic progress "despite difficulties."
The Congress President took to Twitter to say: "Pandit Nehru was the architect of modern India. India in the twenty-first century cannot be imagined without his enormous contribution. Despite the challenges, he was a champion of democracy, and his progressive ideas aided India's social, political, and economic development. This is my humble tribute to a true patriot."
Former Prime Minister Pandit Nehru was born on November 14, 1889. Because of his fondness for children, this day is celebrated across the country as Children's Day.
On the occasion of Jawaharlal Nehru's birth anniversary, senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge paid tribute to his memorial Shanti Van in New Delhi.
