Sonia Gandhi to join Bharat Jodo Yatra in Karnataka on October 6
Sonia Gandhi, the acting president of the Congress, will take part in the Bharat Jodo Yatra on October 6 in Karnataka, according to the news agency ANI. Sonia Gandhi will be taking part in the Yatra for the first time; it started when she was away for a medical examination.
On October 6, during the Karnataka leg of the Yatra, Sonia Gandhi would walk with the participants, a party source told PTI. The Yatra will travel 511 kilometres through Karnataka over a period of 21 days. Kanyakumari was the starting point on September 7, and it entered Karnataka on Friday after travelling through Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Rahul Gandhi arrived in Gundlupet, Karnataka, on September 30 after walking continuously as part of the Yatra from Gudalur in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu state.
As the state of Karnataka goes to the polls next year, the Yatra has entered a vital phase and is now travelling through a BJP-ruled state for the first time, according to PTI.
A day after Sonia Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will also join the Yatra. Priyanka Gandhi was supposed to join the yatra earlier but was unable to do so owing to unforeseen circumstances, according to news agency ANI, even though her programme has not yet been finalised.
On Friday, Rahul Gandhi asserted that the party can only connect with the populace through the "Bharat Jodo Yatra" because all other channels of communication have been shut off.
