Mumbai, December 11 (PTI): Legendary lyricist-screenwriter Javed Akhtar is set to receive the esteemed Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming Ajanta-Ellora Film Festival. Known for his remarkable contributions to Hindi cinema, Akhtar, the co-writer of iconic Bollywood films like "Zanjeer," "Deewaar," and "Sholay," will be honored on the inaugural day of the festival's ninth edition, as per a press release.
The grand award ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 3, 2024, at the Rukmini Auditorium in MGM University, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Nandkishor Kagliwal, the chairman of the Ajanta-Ellora film festival organizing committee, and chief mentor Ankushrao Kadam made the official announcement.
The Padmapani Award selection committee, consisting of notable figures like renowned film director Girish Kasarvalli, Hindi poet Ashok Vajpeyi, film critic Latika Padgaonkar, and filmmakers Ashok Rane and Chandrakant Kulkarni, recognized Akhtar's exceptional role in shaping the landscape of Hindi cinema.
The honor includes a Padmapani memento, a citation, and a monetary award of Rs 2 lakhs. The Ajanta-Ellora Film Festival, previously known as the Aurangabad International Film Festival (AIFF), is an annual event organized by Nath Group and Yashwantrao Chavan Centre, Mumbai, with the generous support of the governments of Maharashtra and India.
