Times 100 Emerging Leaders’ List: Jio Chairman Akash Ambani Becomes The Only Indian To Feature On The List

Akash Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Jio, has been included in TIME magazine's TIME100 Next list, which honors "emerging stars from across industries and around the world." TIME100 Next is modeled after the magazine's original TIME100 list of the world's most powerful individuals. On the list, he is the only other Indian. Amrapali Gan, an American business executive of Indian descent, is also included on the list.

"Recognizing 100 rising stars from various industries and around the world," according to the TIME100 Next. The 2022 TIME100 Next list, compiled by TIME's journalists, includes singers and doctors, government officials and movement leaders, high-profile whistleblowers and top CEOs. 

The list included Akash Ambani, the son of Mukesh Ambani, the founder and chairman of Reliance Industries, and Nita Ambani, the founder and chairperson of Reliance Foundation.

Akash (30) was elevated to chairman of Jio, the country's largest telecom provider with more than 42.6 million consumers, in June. It said, "Since then, he's played a significant role in securing multibillion-dollar investments from Google and Facebook."

If he manages Jio successfully, he may be given a shot at larger portions of the family's conglomerate, the article added.

According to Time, the list recognizes 100 young leaders who are reshaping politics, economics, entertainment, sports, health, and activism.

The list includes people like the American singer SZA, the actress Sydney Sweeney, the tennis players Carlos Alcaraz from Spain and Ja Morant from basketball, the actor and media personality Keke Palmer, and the environmental activist Farwiza Farhan.wiza Farhan.
