NEET 2021: Latest Updates, Syllabus and Expected Trends

NEET 2021 to have more internal choices, no syllabus cut: Education Ministry


The medical entry test, NEET 2021, will have more internal preference, in line with the JEE Key. This has been undertaken to ensure that students who have prepared are not at a disadvantage on the basis of the shortened syllabus, as prescribed by most boards, including CBSE. There will, however, be no syllabus cuts for the 2021 NEET. 
 

There has been a buzz about the NEET syllabus being reduced after Education Minister Ramesh Pokhryal Nishnak practically replied to a Kendriya Vidyalaya student on Monday. Instead, however, the minister pointed at a shift of trend.“As the curriculum (for board exams) was cut by 30 per cent due to COVID-19, therefore in the upcoming competitive examinations like JEE and NEET this year the candidates will have more options to answer the questions,” he had said.
 

“The exact pattern for NEET (UG) 2021 is yet to be announced. However, in view of the reduction of the syllabus by some boards across the country, the NEET (UG) 2021 question paper will also have options on the lines of JEE (Main),” an official statement from the ministry read.
 

"A high-level meeting chaired last month by the Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, said the "NTA will come up with the competitive examination syllabus after reviewing the current scenario in different boards. The NTA then opted against lowering the competitive test syllabus and announced further internal alternatives instead.

There are more obstacles to administering NEET in a pandemic compared to JEE Main as a pen-and-paper test as well as getting a huge number of candidates appearing for the examination on a given day. 
 

It was stated that the NTA had written to the Ministry of Health about NEET and asked if the same could be done again. NTA had to keep NEET twice last year too, following the order of the supreme court. However, the officials denied giving any confirmation of this. However, the officials denied providing any evidence of this. The examination is usually held in May and notice and some clarity are eagerly awaited by students.
 

From 2020 onwards, five extra seats in NEET therapy are reserved for children of Kashmiri refugees, as well as Kashmiri pandits or Hindu families residing in the Valley will earn college admissions concessions. Students will get up to 10 per cent cut-off relaxation, as well as the number of seats for them, will be expanded by up to 5 per cent in each course.
 

In addition, the government has decided to reserve five MBBS seats for children of Covid warriors under the central pool, adding a new group for the academic year 2020-21 called 'wards of Covid warriors'.
