For the first time in India , A Committee appointed by the Supreme Court submitted a report , setting the recommendation on the estimation of trees

According to the report , the value of the tree will be evaluated from its age multiplied by the cost Rs 74,500. The members of the committee added that a heritage tree can have a life span of 100 years and can be valued for more than Rs 1 crore. 
Trees are very helpful to humankind as they take in water and carbon dioxide and give out oxygen with the help of sunlight .It helps Not only humans but also help animals in respiration. Plants need oxygen as well as carbon dioxide to live and trees are renewable resources. 
A board guided by the Chief Justice Of India SA Bobde set up a Committee of 5 members to estimate the true value of the tree. However, For the first time in India , the guidelines on the tree assessment have been established.
 A committee was set up to estimate the value of the tree after the PIL (Public Interest Litigation) challenged the West Bengal Government's decision which was planning to cut 356 trees to build five railway bridges of Rs 500 crore . 
The committee informed that from the remaining 306 many of them are heritage value , which estimated to be worth Rs 220 crore. A Committee appointed by the Supreme Court submitted a report to the bench in February 2020 and the report was made public on 3rd February, 2021. 
According to the report , the value of the tree will be evaluated from its age multiplied by the cost Rs 74,500. The members of the committee added that a heritage tree can have a life span of 100 years and can be valued for more than Rs 1 crore. 
The report states that the value of a tree is worth Rs 74,500 wherein the cost of oxygen only is Rs 45,000 , followed by the cost of biofertilizers which is Rs 20,000. The committee suggested that the government should explore the alternatives such as using existing waterways , railway lines to facilitate traffic and transport infrastructure. 
Also , they recommended that a tree should be planted of 10 saplings with small crown size , 25 saplings with medium crown size and 50 saplings with large crown size. 
The Supreme Court still has not accepted the report. "The committee recommendation will make every government bankrupt. So , we need to fine tune a few suggestions", the court remarked on Wednesday. 
The board also stressed the necessity to do the valuation of trees on the basis of timber value and mainly focus on the positive impact of the environment. The case will be taken up in the court after 2 weeks.
