Jasprit Bumrah had already reported back pain shortly before the first T20 encounter against South Africa and had been disqualified from the game in Thiruvananthapuram. Bumrah returned in the last two T20Is against Australia after missing the Asia Cup as well owing to a back issue.

"Jasprit Bumrah expressed back pain on Tuesday during India's practice session. He was examined by the BCCI Medical Team. He will not play in the opening #INDvSA T20I, the BCCI tweeted. Bumrah returned in the final two T20Is against Australia after missing the Asia Cup owing to a back issue.

Bumrah won't play in the World T20, a senior BCCI official told PTI. He has a severe back problem. Because of the stress fracture, he might be out for six months.

The 35-year-old claimed that during the practice, Burma sustained a niggle. The management of the Indian side is expected to choose a player from Mohammed Shami or Deepak Chahar to fill Bumrah's absence from the T20 World Cup.

Bumrah, who is recovering from knee surgery, is the second important player to be missing out T20 World Cup following Ravindra Jadeja.
