In an emotional gathering at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in New Delhi, Congress leaders including Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and party MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra paid their final respects to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Dr. Singh, who passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92, was a towering figure in Indian politics, renowned for his economic liberalization policies that transformed India's economy during his tenure.

Dr. Singh's mortal remains were brought to the AICC office where party workers and leaders alike had the opportunity to pay homage. Rahul Gandhi, visibly moved, expressed profound sorrow, describing Dr. Singh as a "mentor and guide" whose wisdom and integrity had inspired the nation. This sentiment was echoed by many who admired Singh's humility and economic acumen.

The tribute was not only from within the Congress party but transcended political lines, with many dignitaries across different political spectrums offering their condolences. The event underscored the respect and admiration Dr. Singh commanded, both as an economist and a statesman who served as India's 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.

Following the homage at the AICC, Dr. Singh's final rites were planned to be performed at Nigambodh Ghat with full state honors, reflecting his stature and contributions to the nation. The government had decided to allocate space for a memorial for Dr. Singh, acknowledging his significant role in shaping modern India.

The collective mourning of Dr. Singh's passing by political figures from all walks of life highlighted his legacy, marked by initiatives like the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), the Right to Information Act (RTI), and his pivotal role in the Indo-US nuclear deal. His death marks the end of an era, but his contributions will continue to be celebrated and remembered in the annals of Indian history
