BCCI Names Mohammad Shami as the replacement of Jasprit Bumrah in the T20 World Cup squad

The All-India Senior Selection Committee named senior pacer Mohammed Shami to replace Jasprit Bumrah in India's ICC Men's T20 World Cup squad on Friday. Shami has arrived in Australia and will join the rest of the squad in Brisbane ahead of the warm-up matches, according to a BCCI statement. Shami was initially named to the reserve list prior to the tournament.

As backups, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur have been named and will travel to Australia shortly.

India's chances of winning the World Cup in Australia suffered a major setback when leading pacer Bumrah was ruled out due to a shoulder injury. The team management has chosen the experience of senior seamer Mohammed Shami, who hasn't played T20 International cricket for India since the previous World Cup.

Shami, on the other hand, was a member of the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT), who won their first Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy earlier this year. Shami finished the IPL 2022 season as the sixth-highest wicket-taker, with 20 wickets in 16 games and an economy rate of 8.

India's highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2022 campaign will begin on Sunday, October 23rd, with a match against Pakistan on October 23 on Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia.
